About the University

Kazan Innovative University named after V. G. Timiryasov (IEML) was founded in 1994 and now is the largest private higher educational institution in the Republic of Tatarstan and the entire Volga region. Its founder, Dr. Vitaliy Timiryasov, one of the alumni of Kazan and Moscow Universities, laid the best traditions of classical university education in the foundation of a new school.

     

The University is among 100 best Russian higher educational institutions and 5 top best private universities of Russia, it has the official “European quality” golden medal for implementation of the “Management of Quality” system (ISO 9001:2008) and the full member of international association supporting hospitality and tourism education and training.

Since 2010 the teachers of the University annually become winners of the competitions: "Best Innovation Lecture" and "The best university teacher."

     

Since 2018 Kazan Innovative University is full member of international association supporting hospitality and tourism education and training.

Kazan Innovative University named after V. G. Timiryasov (IEML) was the first educational institution in the Republic of Tatarstan which has created an integrated network of communications between departments and branches of the University. This network is built on Cisco Systems equipment and equipment for video conferencing “Tandberg”. Its combination with fiber-optic networks and the university's own innovative software development “Idis Education” allowed to optimize the management of educational processes at the University and transfer it to a totally new level.

According to the Federal Competition Results, since 2012 Kazan Innovative University named after V. G. Timiryasov (IEML) has received 226 budget-funded places for full-time university entrants in the training of specialists in various fields of knowledge. This number of budget places is the largest among private universities in the Republic of Tatarstan.

KIU combines the best traditions of classical university education and the most advanced information technologies. Enhanced study of two foreign languages is compulsory for all students. There are foreign professors in the University who teach using the programs and methods of foreign universities. There are students exchange programs and internships all around the world. The students have a chance to take part in double degree programs with American and European universities and after 4 years of study they can obtain 2 diplomas (the second one is from one of the partner universities). There is cooperation in the field of higher education, secondary vocational education and further vocational education with the use of distance learning technologies with the University of Antananarivo, the Malagasy Association of Teachers of Russian Language and universities of the CIS countries.

KIU  is one of the Volga Region's largest socio-humanities centers which systematically carries out research in the field of economics, law, psychology, education, information technologies and other priority areas of knowledge. It holds All-Russian and International conferences in different fields annually.

     

The University has its own federal journal “Actual Problems of Economics and Law” where both Russian and foreign scientists publish their scientific works.

For the last 5 years the University’s faculties have published more than 2140 scientific papers, including 180 books and 695 articles in publications of the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia. The faculties of the University annually write more than 310 training manuals and books which are published in its own publishing house "Knowledge”.

KIU: PROSPECTIVE PROJECTS for the NEAR FUTURE

 

In the frameworks of the federal project "Development of scientific cooperation" submitted by the Government of the Russian Federation, this summer the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has published the results of the All-Russian Contest of universities that initiates creation of 15 large scientific and educational centers (SEC) in different fields.

Kazan Innovative University has become one of of the winners of this Contest among 15 best propjects selected by the Ministry. According to the results of the All-Russian Contest, KIU will create a large Scientific and Educational Center "DATA SCIENCE CENTER OF KIU" on its base until the end 2021.

The purpose of the SEC is a further active development and wide spread of digital technologies in Tatarstan region and in the whole Russia. According to strategy of the worked out project, the activity of SEC "DATA SCIENCE CENTER OF KIU" will be aimed at development of 6 directions:

  • Lab of of big data on development of competences culture and practices of digital transformation in all fields of modern society;
  • creative innovative space with elements of acceleration;
  • distributed lab of artificial mind;
  • the united informative platform of universities management;
  • digital platform on development of civil society institutes;
  • mentor school.

Kazan is one of the largest industrial and financial centers of Russia, and a leading city of the Volga economic region in construction and accumulated investment. It is the sixth most populous city. Kazan lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers in European Russia, about 715 kilometres east from Moscow. Kazan is renowned for its vibrant mix of Oriental and Russian cultures. In 2015, 2.1 million tourists visited Kazan, and 1.5 million tourists visited the Kazan Kremlin, a World Heritage Site. In April 2009, the Russian Patent Office granted Kazan the right to brand itself as the "Third Capital" of Russia.
