An international practical seminar “Technologies of dyslexia correction as a way to improve students’ progress” took place in KIU. During three days Founder and Head of a school “I love dyslexia” in Greece Aggeliki Pappa had been talking about training peculiarities of children, who had suffered from dyslexia, and persuading listeners that dyslexia hadn’t been disorder, but a peculiarity of a brain functioning.
Teaching staff of KIU, students of the faculty of psychology, employees of kindergartens, schools and orphanages took part in this seminar.
In the first day of the seminar Aggeliki Pappa showed, what it really meant to suffer from dyslexia. She offered listeners to make different experiences over themselves: they were asked to copy Chinese characters, to write a phrase with a left hand and to read a strange text. Participants of these experiences felt silly and uncomfortable. The same feelings have people who can’t properly read or write.
According to Aggeliki, the reason of it lays in a special organization of brain. Such brain has disadvantages as well as advantages in comparison with usual brain. For example, dyslexics see the whole picture at once; they are great oratories and are easily taught using other methods. By the way, a lot of famous people such as Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Henry Ford were dyslexics. Aggeliki is sure, that “you can be a scientist and make mistakes by writing or you can be smart, but at the same time not be able to read and write. That’s why a problem of dyslexics is a problem of a wrong teaching. She devoted her time talking about her own-elaborated methods of children trainings, who suffered from dyslexia. She has spent over 8 years elaborating her own methods to teach dyslexics. Nowadays she implements these methods in her school in Greece.
