In 2019 our university celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its founding. This landmark date brought together students, teachers, graduates and friends of the university, which in its history has taken a leading place in the higher education system of the country. The outgoing year has become one of the bright pages of a long road. Let us remember the most significant moments. 

EDUCATION

1) KIU was the first among universities of Tatarstan in the number of medals on professional skills competitions in the framework of the III National Interuniversity Championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia), held in November 2019 in Moscow.

KIU results:
1st place - Hotel Administration.
2nd place - Organization of excursion services.
2nd place - Tourism.
2nd place - Tourism Juniors.

KIU also took part in organizing and preparing winners of the finals of the VII National Championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia) 2019.

2) KIU faculty of law has successfully passed professional and public accreditation. KIU became the only university in the republic that accredited under the new requirements at the same time bachelor and master degree programs on a specialization "Jurisprudence". The decision about professional and public accreditation in the anniversary year for the university was another recognition of the merits of KIU in the field of training highly qualified legal personnel and a peculiar sign of the quality of provided educational services.

3) KIU for the second year in a row was recognized as the best educational institution of the republic for training of specialists for the tourism sector. According to the results of the annual competition of the State Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan "Tourism Leader", our university became the winner in the nomination "Promoting the Development of the Tourism Market of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Field of Tourism Education". Colleagues of this industry noted that it was an unconditional victory for KIU, which from year to year strengthens its leadership position. 

4) The highest professionalism of our teachers was evaluated at the All-Russian competition "Golden Names of Higher Education", organized on a grant from the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Three teachers at once became winners in the nominations "For devotion to the profession and continuation of traditions of Russian higher education" and "For development of a practice-oriented higher education."

5) In total this year, more than 200 employees and teachers of the university were awarded with state and departmental awards of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, including awards of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan , The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tatarstan and other departments.

By the decree of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, the rector of KIU Asiya Timiryasova was awarded with a medal of the Republic of Tatarstan “For Valiant Labor”.

6) KIU students annually become winners and prize-winners of professional competitions. In 2019 we won the competition of the leaders of the Republic of Tatarstan “Up”, won the maximum number of prizes at one of the main republican tourism competitions “Journey to the Origins”, became winners of the III Republican Competition “Lawyer of the Year”, became finalists of the All-Russian Competition of Entrepreneurship and technological projects “Preactum Cup: future practices”, prize-winners of the pedagogical skills contest of the Sirius educational center (Sochi).

7) In 2019 KIU was among the five best private universities in the country, which is confirmed by the positions in the federal educational ratings: X National University Rating (IV position), Non-state university rating “National Recognition: Best University of 2019” (V position).

8) This year KIU students won special scholarships of the Republic of Tatarstan and scholarships from Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin for an excellent academic performance, victories and prizes at scientific and practical conferences.

9) In 2019 the construction of KIU new building was completed, in which all conditions for high-quality and multifaceted training were created. Students will have access to coworking for a work of youth research teams, conference rooms, a rehearsal room, as well as a gym for game sports and a student dormitory with 150 seats. 

SCIENCE

10) In 2019 KIU scientometric indicators increased, which allowed the university to take the 4th place among universities of the Republic of Tatarstan according to the Hirsch index.

11) KIU management team passed a competitive selection and took part in the list of 30 leading universities of Russia in the educational intensiveness “Island 10-22”. As a result, a memorandum of cooperation was signed with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) and the STI University “20.35”. The consequence of this agreement was the opening of the ASI project office at KIU, a career navigation laboratory, creation of a big data laboratory and a machine learning at the university.

12) In 2019 KIU held many conferences and scientific forums, among which the IX All-Russian conference with international participation “Dialectics of the fight against corruption”, the II International Innovation and Education Campus-2019, the All-Russian Conference on Digital Economics, the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Continuing system of inclusive education: designing inclusive educational systems." The events brought together about 5000 participants.

13) Students and teachers of the university became winners of the XV contest “50 best innovative ideas for the Republic of Tatarstan” in the categories “Socially significant innovations” and “Start of innovations”.

14) The results of the VII Volga Interregional competition of university publications “University Book - 2019” have been summed up. A well-deserved victory in the main competition of educational publications in the Volga region was won by KIU publishing house “Poznanie” in two categories at once: “The best educational publication in humanities and social sciences” for a textbook “History and Culture of Tatarstan” (authors O.D. Agapov, E.I. Agapova), and in a nomination "The best educational publication in economic sciences" for the educational visual aid "State financial control in charts and tables" (authors E.R. Kovaleva, Z.S. Yakupov, G.T. Gafurova).

STUDENT LIFE

15) KIU students Diana Ivanova, Ekaterina Okhotnikova and Daria Shadrina won “gold” in a team competition of the IX European University Championship on table tennis, held in Camerino (Italy). At the Russian Ball “University Sports Stars-2019”, KIU was awarded with a diploma “For achievements at the European Championships among students in 2019.”

16) KIU athletes took the second team place among universities in 32 sports according to the results of sports leagues and the general Spartakiad of universities of the Republic of Tatarstan. At the award ceremony at the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, our university received a certificate for a purchase of sports equipment in the amount of 680 thousand rubles. 

17) KIU handball team is two-time champions of the student handball league of Tatarstan! After a series of win-win games, our team has deservedly become the best among all universities of the republic.

18) KIU athletes became winners of “Division A” of the championship of the Student Hockey League of

the Republic of Tatarstan.

 19) KIU football players for the third time in a row became champions of “Division A” of the Student Football League of the Republic of Tatarstan. In total, they won this title five times.

20) KIU e-sports team continued its successful series of appearances at major tournaments. The main results: Kazan Cup 2019 in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Kazan Cup 2019 in Clash Royale, 1st place in Tatarstan E-sports Student League - 2019 in Warface.

21) A graduate of the Faculty of Economics of KIU, master of sports of international class Aigul Sitdikova entered the top three strongest women on the planet.

CREATIVE AND SOCIAL WORK

22) KIU Volunteer organization “From the bottom of my heart” took 1st place in the nomination “Volunteer Association of the Year” at a city competition “Volunteer of the Year 2019”!

23) KIU College became a winner and prize-winner of the republican festival of student creativity “Freshman Day 2019”. Vocal studio "Evterpa" won the Grand Prix of the festival.

24) At the republican competition "Spring Drops - 2019" KIU College won a diploma for the best training of creative teams.

25) A team for fitness aerobics KIU "Galatea" and a dance project Brooklyn took first place in the overall standings in competitions on fitness aerobics and became the best among all universities in Kazan!

26) At the Russian student spring, Kalipso fashion theater took 2nd place, Mix Style dance theater took 3rd place.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY

KIU strengthens an international cooperation. This year a number of foreign students from non-CIS states has doubled at our university. As part of a grant for an academic exchange of students and teachers in the field of tourism with the University of Pula (Croatia) Erasmus + students of the Faculty of Service, Tourism and Food Service Management are currently studying in Croatia. As part of a grant to increase effectiveness of a treatment of chronic diseases (educational programs at a master's level), students of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy completed internships in Ireland, Italy and Lithuania. The implementation of an academic exchange grant for teachers in the field of inclusive education with the University of Malta under the Erasmus + grant is also ongoing.
