The festival of national cuisines, which takes place at the Faculty of Hospitality and Design of KIU, is designed for a long period during which participants - students and guests of the University - will be able to partake in a variety of national dishes, get acquainted with the cultures of different peoples and just have fun with a great meal. A kaleidoscope of events at the University and College is like an amazing journey into the world of culinary, which is especially relevant this year, declared in Tatarstan as the Year of National Cultures and Traditions.
In her pep talk for the current event, Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Design Elena Matveeva revealed an extensive plan of events within the framework of the festival and wished students to always remain active, positive and inquisitive.
Well, today's meeting was devoted to traditional Russian holidays, as well as national cuisine. Elena Yakovleva, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Socio-Political Disciplines, conducted a fascinating excursion into history for students. The audience learned about what holidays are, why they are celebrated and what their purpose is. Holidays express the national identity of the people, love for the Motherland, - Elena Yakovleva emphasized. “To celebrate the holidays means to live with taste, to live with meaning.” The professor noted that each nation has its own palette of national traditions, holidays, and cuisine. Carefully preserving them, our ancestors brought harmony to life. Further, Elena Yakovleva spoke about the history of such traditional Russian holidays as Maslenitsa and Easter, as well as the Great Lent preceding Easter.
The professor became a guide for students to the world of Russian traditions, which gave a special meaning to the tasting of dishes at the National Culinary Studio of KIU. The guests tried the traditional Russian dish "kalitki" - open pies made from unleavened rye dough with various fillings. The culinary specialists of the Department of Catering Technology did their best - everything was very tasty!
