On June 2, Kazan Innovative University named after V.G. Timiryasov hosted the Rector’s Ball 2026.
In her opening speech, Rector Asiya Timiryasova shared a story about asking artificial intelligence a simple question: “What are KIU students like?” The AI responded with high praise. According to it, KIU students are versatile, responsible, ambitious, and highly motivated individuals who successfully balance numerous activities while striving for excellence. The AI also jokingly suggested that KIU students know how to pass exams without opening a textbook, relying instead on their greatest innovative resources – mutual support and an unlimited love for coffee.
The Rector agreed with the AI’s assessment, noting that the KIU students, especially those gathered at the Ball, are bright, ambitious, and successful. She wished those present in the hall that their virtual life would never become the basis of real life, and, most importantly, that their natural intelligence would always be higher than artificial intelligence. “Value every moment, maintain your thirst for knowledge and action, and direct your energy toward creation and meaningful achievements,” she inspired the students.
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the KIU Academic Council Awards, the University’s highest recognition of student achievement, leadership, and responsibility. The awards were presented by the University’s vice-rectors. It was they, the people shaping the university’s strategy, research, and development, who took the stage to personally assess the students’ work and offer them their guidance. Among those taking part in the ceremony were First Vice-Rector and Vice-Rector for Research Igor Bikeev, Vice-Rector for Innovative and Project Management Activities Irina Antonova, Vice-Rector for Continuous Education Daniya Akhmetova, Vice-Rector for Academic Work Yulia Kamasheva, Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs and Strategic Development Liliya Vorontsova, Vice-Rector for Corporate Management Timur Kramin, and Vice-Rector for Legal Affairs Nikolay Babkin. Their words of encouragement and recognition served as a powerful reminder that the University holds its most talented representatives in the highest regards and sees its own future reflected in them.
Outstanding students from the University, College, and regional branches were invited to the stage to receive their awards from the University leadership. Their moment of recognition was accompanied by a series of innovative video presentations that became one of the most distinctive features of the Ball. The audience was treated to creative video messages from prominent historical figures whose names have become synonymous with their respective professions. Law students received words of encouragement from renowned Russian lawyer Fyodor Plevako, while students of Management and Engineering Business were inspired by Frederick Taylor, the founder of scientific management. Students of Psychology and Pedagogy were addressed by the distinguished psychologist Konstantin Ushinsky, while College students received guidance from the legendary Soviet educator Anton Makarenko.
Special video greetings were also dedicated to the University’s regional branches, highlighting the strength and unity of the KIU family and demonstrating that talent knows no geographical boundaries. Thank you to the university’s Media Center for this fantastic video trip down memory lane!
No traditional ball would be complete without elegance and artistry. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a series of ballroom dance performances. The students showcased grace and grandeur in their performance of classical ballet steps, while the heartfelt joint dance by representatives from the different branches became one of the most unforgettable moments of the evening. The students proved that their talents extend far beyond academics and science, they also master the waltz and the minuet!
The celebration also featured performances by the Aura Duo, the Vocal and Instrumental studio “VIVA”, the Theatre of Dance “Mix Style”, and the Calypso Fashion Theatre.
The most emotional part of the ceremony came with the recognition of the University’s top academic achievers. The honors graduates from the University, College, and regional branches who had distinguished themselves through exceptional academic performance were invited to the stage. These students have proven that top grades come from discipline, and that true strength lies in the harmony of mind and talent.
The honors were presented by Rector Asiya Timiryasova. On behalf of the student body, Polina Zaitseva, honors graduate and former Chair of the University Student Council, delivered a response. The evening concluded with a moving musical performance by the Vocal and Instrumental studio “VIVA” and a traditional reception, where informal communication continued the unforgettable atmosphere of unity and success.
KIU is our world, and together we are writing its story!
