Establishing of UNESCO Chair on Human Rights and Democracy Branch is an expected result of huge amount of work made by Kazan Innovative University named after V. G. Timiryasov (IEML).
The University contributes a lot to informing and educating in the field of protection and enforcement of human rights and democracy, doing research and hosting issue-related events, promoting civil society development.
KIU (IEML) law clinic rendered legal support to thousands of people, which includes violation of human rights issues. Currently it is actively working in directions of protection of rights of health consumers, students, retired and handicapped people. Under the guidance of professors and former practitioners, KIU (IEML) students assist everyone who needs help. Moreover, the University cooperates with the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Tatarstan and Human rights commissioner of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Establishing of UNESCO Chair will provide the opportunity to expand research activities in this field. It will also open new prospects for cultural and humanitarian contacts.
General information: UNESCO Chair in Human Rights and Democracy was established in 1994 at Moscow State Institute of International Relations. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through educational, scientific, and cultural reforms in order to increase universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the United Nations Charter.
