The Chuvash Cuisine Festival was held on a large scale in KIU - a unique holiday that introduced the participants to the traditions and history of the Chuvash people. The event, held within the framework of the Year of National Cultures and Traditions, brought together students, university teachers, as well as guests from Chuvashia, the Aksubaevsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan and many other lovers of national color.
The organizer was the Faculty of Hospitality and Design of KIU, headed by the dean Elena Matveeva, as well as the Chuvash national-cultural autonomy of the Republic of Tatarstan. The well-prepared program of the holiday included lectures and workshops, fun games and competitions, and, of course, tasting of national dishes.
The holiday brought together guests from different cities of the country. Among the participants were representatives of the Union of Chuvash Women of the Republic of Tatarstan, the leader of the Chuvash youth movement of Kazan "Atalan" under the Chuvash national-cultural autonomy in the Republic of Tatarstan Yulia Yeremeeva, guest students of the Cheboksary Music College named after F.P. Pavlova, graduates of KIU from the Republic of Chuvashia and students and teachers of KIU.
“2023 has been declared the Year of National Cultures and Traditions. But this does not mean that only this year we are getting to know each other's cultures and traditions, - Rector Asiya Timiryasova addressed the participants. - Our country is amazing: up to two hundred nationalities live in it. And in Tatarstan, more than 173 nationalities live in peace and harmony. Chuvash is the third largest nation in the republic. And at our university there are a lot of students from the Chuvash Republic, as well as from those districts that are considered Chuvash in Tatarstan. These are Aksubayevsky, Drozhzhanovsk and Nurlatsky districts. And the fact that this festival is taking place today is also valuable because it is very important for each of us to understand our roots, to know our traditions. And not only of their native nationality, but also of those who live next to us. This enriches each other and makes our communication even closer, helping the prosperity of Russia and Tatarstan.”
Further, the audience listened with interest to the lecture of the invited speakers, professors of the Chuvash State Pedagogical University named after I. Yakovlev, Ph.D. L. V. Kuznetsova and postgraduate student R. A. Matveev "Ethno-cultural traditions of the Chuvash people in modern society." The lecturers spoke about the ancient roots of the Chuvash people, national clothes, ornaments and symbols of the Chuvash embroidery, traditional crafts, folk holidays and customs.
Among the invited guests at the ceremony, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Suvar", writer, poet, member of the Union of Writers of the Chuvash Republic Irina Trifonova, who introduced the participants to the modern culture of Chuvashia, also spoke.
Next, the audience was expected by a master class at the Culinary Laboratory of the Yunus Akhmetzyanov, as well as a big outdoor concert. In a cozy atmosphere created by KIU students-designers, the culinary specialists of the Faculty of Technology and Catering of KIU prepared an amazingly delicious Chuvash national dish Khuran-kukli, which all the guests enjoyed with pleasure.
Real street festival started, where everyone found their own. What was not there! At the exhibition of folk products of the Chuvash folk craft, the dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Design Elena Matveeva presented items from her personal collection: hand-sewn national clothes made of self-woven material, various national fabrics with ornaments. Nearby, KIU students enthusiastically played the Chuvash folk games, organized by the leader of the Chuvash youth movement of Kazan "ATALAN" under the Chuvash national cultural autonomy in the Republic of Tatarstan, Yulia Yeremeeva. And next to the stage is a bright festive concert with the participation of artists from the Aksubaevsky district house of culture.
The holiday was amazing! Guests and students learned a lot about the Chuvash culture, had a good time and strengthened the friendship of peoples. Without a doubt, within the framework of the Year of National Culture and Traditions, we will have many more events dedicated to the cultures of different peoples of Russia.
